Regular Season Wrap-up

The regular season has come to a close here in 2018.  These past few years have seen the Bears working through some growing pains but the growth this group of upper class-men have made is undeniable and the future is bright.  In consecutive seasons as Freshman this group of Seniors and Juniors only tallied 12 wins combined, and now as a collaborative group on Varsity are above .500 with quality wins throughout the year and have momentum moving into the post-season.   The JV and Freshman groups accumulated many quality wins throughout the year including a sweep over rival PRP.

This last week of the regular season saw the Varsity Bears continue their trend of up and down play.  They started the week with a quality win over a ranked Fern Creek club giving them only their fourth loss of the season.  The next night however the Bears stumbled again losing a lop-sided affair at South Oldham.  To close out the week and regular season the Bears played host to Manual.  In the Saturday afternoon contest the Bears reeled off sixteen hits and nine runs for a 9-3 win.  With that win the Bears posted a 15-13 record heading into the post-season.  Milan Perpich Field will play host for the Semi-Finals and Finals of the 22nd District on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tuesday's action starts at 5:00 p.m. with Doss taking on DeSales and Butler plays at 7:30 against the winner of Iroquois and Western (they play Monday).  Action will conclude with the District Championship on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

The JV team had an up and down week as well.  Early in the week the Bears traveled to South Oldham and pulled out a nice 7-6 win on the road however they did not close out the week in the same fashion.  On Friday the Bears lost to Christian Academy to end the season.  As a whole this was a very positive year for the JV team as they posted a 10-6-2 record.  This young group will look to take that confidence with them into the off-season and 2019.

The Freshman team closed out the regular season by gaining more momentum with two wins.  Early in the week the Bears traveled to South Oldham picking up a good win in a lightning shortened contest and then returned home on Friday picking up a win over Christian Academy to close out the season.  Again this young group has a lot to be proud of and a lot of confidence moving forward posting a 11-7 record.  This group will look to add to the foundation that has been laid by them in the future.

Weekly Update

The Bears were hoping to heat up with the temperatures this week but continued their inconsistent play throughout all levels this week.  Moving into the last week of the regular season the Bears will look to game some momentum as they head into the post-season for Varsity and 2019 for the JV and Freshman teams.

The Varsity Bears had an interesting week to say the least.  After dropping back-to-back games against Valley and Holy Cross and three in a row overall, they bounced back with a win against Boyd Co. in the Fayette County Invitational.  The Bears closed out the weekend by splitting their pair on Saturday losing to Madison Central and winning the late game against host Henry Clay.  Moving into the last week of the regular season the Varsity Bears are sitting at 13-12 overall.  They look to gain some momentum with a big slate this week hosting Fern Creek, rival PRP, and Manual while traveling to South Oldham.

The JV Bears were up and down this week gathering a tie, a win, and a loss.  On Tuesday the Bears traveled to North Oldham and could not get the contest completed due to darkness and concluded in a tie.  Later in the week the Bears traveled to Holy Cross and DeSales.  The JV team brought home a victory at DeSales before closing out the week with a loss at Holy Cross.  Going into the last week of the season the JV team is 9-5-2 and will concluded by taking on South Oldham and Christian Academy.

The Freshman Bears have cooled off after their hot start to the season and are 9-7 overall going into this last week of the season.  This past week the Bears were on the road at North Oldham, DeSales, and Holy Cross.  The Bears brought home a victory to close the week at Holy Cross but surrendered losses to DeSales and North Oldham.  The Freshman Bears will close out the regular season with contests at
South Oldham, verse PRP, and Christian Academy.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the ballpark as we close out the 2018 Regular Season this week. Also, remember the Varsity Bears will be hosting the Semi-Finals and Finals of the 22nd District Tournament May 22nd and 23rd at Milan Perpich Field. The official schedule will be released soon.

Weekly Update

This week was very unique in the city of Louisville and the Bears contributed to that.  Due to a shortage of umpires around the area games had to be canceled and our Freshman Bears fell victim to this Thursday evening.  Even with that hiccup the rest of the Bears were able to get their full slate of games in with the nice weather we had.

The Varsity Bears continued their up-and-down streak of inconsistency going 2-2 this week.  They were able to assure the #1 seed in this month's District Tournament and close out a nice offensive effort against J-Town but fell to rivals Male and Bullitt East.  The Varsity Bears will be back in action Tuesday as they travel to Valley before returning home on Wednesday against Holy Cross.  Wednesday's game will be the only home game of the week and will also serve as our Senior Night.  This weekend the Bears will travel to Henry Clay for the Fayette County Invitational where they will take on Boyd Co., Madison Central, and host Henry Clay.  Our Varsity is 11-9 on the season and look to gain some momentum this week before the post-season.

The JV Bears picked up two good wins to start the week against Fern Creek and J-Town before hosting Bullitt East as part of a triple-header on Friday at Milan Perpich Field.  Friday did not have the outcome the JV Bears had hoped for but they will look to rebound this week against North Oldham, DeSales, and Holy Cross all on road.

The Freshman Bears had some unfortunate circumstances that caused cancellations with Ballard and Collins this week.  Finally, they were able to get a game in with Bullitt East on Friday but they did not perform up to par.  The Bears lost 5-12 to the Chargers and will look to bounce back this week on the road at North Oldham, DeSales, and Holy Cross.

Weekly Update

This past week brought about another stretch of good weather allowing the Bears to get most of their games in.  Rain disrupted some scheduling early but the end of the week cleared out nicely.

After shuffling some games around due to mandated District games needing to be played, the Varsity were able to get it's full load of four games in this week.  The Varsity Bears started out on fire but cooled off to close out the week.  On Wed. the Varsity Bears took care of business in another District contest against Iroquois and then followed it up with a redemption win over Southern after losing to them last week.  To close out the week the Varsity Bears lost the last two games in the L.I.T. to Breckinridge Co. and Lafayette.  The Varsity will look to bounce back this week with another tough stretch.  After another District game on Tues. against Western the Bears host Male on Wed. and Bullitt East on Friday.  On Thursday evening they will travel to J-Town.  The Varsity Bears are 9-7 on the season.

The JV Bears had another cancellation on Tuesday against St. X but picked up a game against Southern on Thursday.  Being short handed Thursday hurt the Bears against Southern but they were able to bounce back on Saturday with a win against West Jessamine.  The JV finished the week 1-1 and are 7-3-1 on the year.

The Freshman Bears had a disappointing week dropping all three games.  However, Thursday's loss was to a good JV team from New Albany being that it was originally scheduled to be a JV game.  The Freshman Bears look to bounce back this week against three more quality opponents.  They will travel to Ballard before playing host to Collins and Bullitt East.  The Bullitt East game will be the last of a triple-header on Friday at Milan Perpich Field.  The Freshman Bears are 8-4 on the season.

Weekly Update

The Butler Bears were finally able to get all regularly scheduled games in last week for the first time this season, and made up a Varsity game that was rained out earlier in the year.  Hopefully spring has arrived and will stick around; minus the rain....

The Varsity Bears are 7-5 on the season and have truly been Jekyll and Hyde thus far in 2018.  They have positioned themselves nicely in District play and are 2-0 with wins over DeSales and Doss but have had some disappointing losses as well.  The Varsity picked up nice wins over Meade Co and Moore in addition to the district games but have dropped a couple of heart-breakers to Southern and Ballard in the process.  The Varsity Bears are back in action with another District game Tuesday at Iroquois and then return home Thur-Sat as they play host in the L.I.T. this weekend.

The JV Bears are off to a hot start to the season even with a couple of set-backs this past week.  This weekend they picked up a nice win against rival PRP to go along with another win over Manual and North Oldham.  The JV Bears are 6-2-1 on the season and will return to action tomorrow as they play host to St. Xavier at Milan Perpich Field.  First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.

The Freshman Bears have really set the 2018 season on fire with their only blemish coming against North Oldham's JV team.  Other than that the Freshman have taken care of business against teams from all across town including a 7-0 victory over rival PRP.  The Freshman Bears will return to action with the JV for a Double-header at Milan Perpich Field tomorrow.  First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.

Today's Games Rained Out

All games today have been canceled due to the storms moving through the state.  The Bears will be back in action next week on all three levels.

The Varsity Bears will host District opponent Doss on Tuesday and then Christian Academy on Thursday.  Also, the Varsity Bears picked up a game next Wednesday at Southern at 5:00 p.m.  They will conclude the week with a trip to Meade Co. on Saturday for a game starting at 2:30 p.m.

The JV and Freshman Teams will host Double-headers against North Bullitt (Tues.) and PRP (Sat.) next week.  They will also travel to Christian Academy on Wed. for a DH.

We hope to see everyone at the ball park next week!

Season Update

The weather has not made playing baseball easy so far this spring, but games have been played on all levels.  Over the past three weeks the Bears have been able to get a handful of games in for each team.

As of today the Varsity Bears have a record of 3-2.  They have accumulated wins over North Bullitt, E-Town, and Paducah Tilghman, while falling to Eastern and Central Hardin.  The JV and Freshman teams for the Bears have not surrendered a loss to date.  The JV have a tie with Eastern but redeemed that with a win over the Eagles at the end of last week, as well as, getting wins against South Oldham and Manual.  That brings their record to 3-0-1.  Our Freshman Bears have an unblemished record of 4-0 with wins against Bullitt Central, South Oldham, Manual, and Fairdale.

All levels will be back in action this week.  The Varsity host district rival DeSales tomorrow at Milan Perpich Field at 5:00 p.m. and the JV and F will host a Double-header Wednesday against the Crimsons of Manual starting at 5:00 p.m.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the ball park this week!
